This morning, after I read in the NY Times that Bowie was to appear at a star studded music event in his honor, I got online and read that David Bowie had died since that paper was printed. My first thought was the online headline of his death was a hoax, but I type this realizing that is a long shot. He had cancer.
Having seen his music video to his song titled Lazarus (featured below) just days before his death, he could not have timed the release more perfectly.
He was a true original artist who made the world of music and music inspired film more vast and beautiful.
He theatrically infused his music so well, often playing the role of a unigender, making it cool to be different, while leaving some to wonder if he was gay, straight, bi or what. He pushed that envelope at a time when people with trans gender desires were not so free to be.
He was and will always be a symbol and an icon of coolness for generations of people who strive to be uniquely true to themselves.
His love at first sight marriage with Iman put him in another league of cool.
The elder statesman of the high art side of music has moved on to another dimension, yet again. Farewell Mr. Bowie. Hope you are having a spectacular flight.
Just below, the first two music videos are his most recent genius works tied to, Lazarus, his off-Broadway musical, which ran through January 19, 2015 at the New York Theatre Workshop.
